Think Purple Teens

A Focus on Teens at Think Purple

At Think Purple, teens are at the heart of what we do. In today’s world, the focus for young people often shifts toward being “job-ready” (whatever that means!), leaving little room for nurturing their emotional intelligence (EQ). While IQ is important, I strongly believe that building self-worth, self-esteem, and positive emotions from the inside is far more valuable.

Teens today face immense pressure to conform to societal and peer expectations. At Think Purple, we emphasize the importance of embracing individuality and standing out in a world that often pushes for uniformity. By fostering creativity and self-expression, we aim to empower teens to value their uniqueness and develop a sense of pride in who they are.

Weekly Classes for Teens

I run two weekly teen sessions tailored to different age groups:

  • Monday Nights (Ages 13–15)
  • Friday Nights (Ages 16–19)

Each class is designed to engage their right brains, encouraging intuitive thinking and creative problem-solving. Instead of being told how things should be done, teens are given the space to explore and trust their own ideas.

Isobel and I work together to ensure every teen feels heard and supported. We collaborate with them to design projects they are passionate about, empowering them to take ownership of their creativity. The pride they feel in their work is deeply rewarding and helps build confidence.

Quarterly Self-Empowerment Workshops

In addition to weekly sessions, I host quarterly self-empowerment weekend workshops. These special events, supported by other facilitators, incorporate activities like meditation, yoga, and mindfulness practices—all focused on cultivating self-love and inner balance.

These workshops are designed to provide teens with the tools they need to navigate life’s challenges while nurturing their mental and emotional well-being.

At Think Purple, we are committed to giving teens a safe, supportive space to grow, express themselves, and develop the confidence to face the world as their authentic selves. Let’s empower our teens to think creatively, trust their intuition, and embrace the beauty of being uniquely them.

Why Creative Arts Matter for Teens

By their teenage years, most kids have spent some time exploring art at school, developing basic drawing and painting skills. However, as school life becomes more demanding, art often gets sidelined in favor of other studies and commitments. Additionally, the structured nature of school curriculums can stifle creativity, leaving students feeling uninspired and disconnected from the joy of artistic expression.

When this happens, teens can lose their creative spark. As logical, left-brain thinking dominates, stress and anxiety levels can rise. This is where a dedicated teen art group becomes vital—a space for young people to relax, unwind, and keep their creative right brains engaged.

I am passionate about the resilience and emotional well-being that art-making fosters, especially as we grow older. Creativity is a powerful tool for navigating life’s challenges, and maintaining a connection to it is essential.

What These Sessions Offer

Designed for anyone aged 13 and up, these sessions provide a relaxing, self-expressive environment where teens can explore their preferred artistic mediums. From jewellery making and fashion design to sewing, painting, and drawing—anything goes! We listen to music, laugh, and even enjoy pizzas together.

This is their space to experiment, create, and dream. They can propose projects they’re excited about, and I’ll help resource the materials and guide them in bringing their ideas to life.

One of the unique aspects of our group is the mentorship offered by the talented isobel, who works closely with younger teens. Together, we’re exploring ways to expand their creativity into entrepreneurial ventures, such as selling crafts at local markets or online through platforms like Etsy, Instagram, and YouTube. These experiences teach valuable skills like entrepreneurship, communication, and problem-solving—while letting them earn money doing what they love.

A Space for Freedom and Growth

Our sessions are intentionally casual and flexible. Teens can seek guidance and inspiration from me or simply use the space and materials to work independently. I encourage them to follow their intuition and imagination, developing their unique voices as creators.

The goal is to nurture intuitive and fearless creativity, steering away from overthinking and embracing the joy of artistic exploration. By staying connected to their creative side, teens can unlock endless possibilities in life.

Why Creativity is Essential

Art is not just a “nice-to-have” activity for teens—it’s an essential tool for growth. Creative pursuits reduce anxiety, boost self-esteem, encourage innovative thinking, and foster problem-solving skills. Most importantly, art helps build emotional intelligence, a critical attribute for thriving in today’s world.

In a time when young people are inundated with challenges and distractions, creative arts offer a much-needed outlet for self-expression and exploration. Teens need to learn how to think outside the box—and the creative arts provide exactly that.

Let’s inspire the next generation to dream, imagine, and create a brighter future.

Hi I’m Alisa. I am 18 years old and recently graduated from Banora Point High School. I am currently working at a local cafe until I figure out what path I want to take career wise.

I’m always dreaming about fashion so in my spare time I’m thrifting for some unique pieces to rework and add to my overflowing wardrobe. DIYing accessories and jewellery are another one of my hobbies – my latest project being the rings made of spoons that I have now decorated my hands with.

During High School, Kay’s art space was my comfort zone – I am hoping that I can recreate that same safe space for the youth of our community. To guide them through the same journey I just went through and be like an older sister to them haha. I was lucky enough to have a few mentor type figures like Kay but didn’t really have someone around my age that were outside my close circle of friends and family that I could express my feelings too.

In a nutshell, that’s what I hope to offer here – to lend an ear, have a chat, listen to some good music and make some cool art.

Hello, My name is Bindi

I have had two years of experience alongside Kay. This has refined and developed my teaching and wellbeing support skills.
Seeing the young ones flourish in their own creative ways has been a blessing I did not know could happen at my age. Art has always been a part of my life and my passion is to help others achieve their visions while also supporting and mentoring them with honesty and love.

My goal is to hold a space for others to be themselves and to help young people find their inner fulfilment in life. For some, Art is the catalyst for doing so and my part is to listen and support them.

I have been working as a support person for over a year which has been such a pleasure.

It’s incredible to explore their inspiring ideas and see their creative growth.
I look forward to meeting and connecting with new people and of course making art!
